Tourism as an Agent of Recovery in Post-COVID-19 Southern Africa

In this paper, programme Research Manager Leighton G. Luke looks at the tourism industry in the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and assesses its potential to be an economic lifeline in a post-COVID-19 travel environment.

He finds that the tourism sector will not be the sole path to recovery, but, in many countries of the region, it can offer the hope of a lifeline for at least one sector of the economy.
