Professor Rudi Appels

Professor Appels is a co-chair of IWGSC and a Director of the Western Node of Molecular Plant Breeding Cooperative Research Centre, Murdoch University, where he also conducts his research within the Centre for Comparative Genomics. His current work focuses on large-scale sequence assembly of the genomes of individual wheat chromosomes and associating functional attributes to regions of the genome. Professor Appels was awarded the Queen Elizabeth fellowship 1975, Harkness fellowship, 1979 and the Gottschalk medal awarded by the Australian Academy of Sciences for distinguished research in biological sciences, 1985.
