The Hon. Michael Jeffery AC AO (Mil) CVO MC
Major General (Retd)
Future Directions International (FDI) is an independent, not-for-profit strategic research institute. It was established in 2000 by me and a small group of leading Australians, to conduct comprehensive research of important medium to long-term issues facing Australia.
FDI’s primary aim is to provide informed, balanced research, which ultimately will result in policy changes that will enhance the quality of strategic decision making at senior levels of the public and private sectors in Australia.
Its research is forward-looking, attempting to anticipate events and changes and, by so doing, identify the opportunities and challenges that Australia may face in the future. FDI produces a series of strategic reports and assessments together with Landmark Studies, that are distributed free of charge, largely by electronic means.
FDI is linked to Soils For Life, a Canberra based not-for-profit organisation, whose primary task is to examine ways to regenerate the health of the Australian landscape. This linkage requires FDI to determine the extent of a possible global food and water crisis and what might be done to reduce it.
The research provided by FDI’s core base of Strategic Analysts together with academically gifted interns is also assisted by 4,000 FDI Associates who have skills and experience relevant to the focus areas. Many of the members of this extensive network hold senior leadership, academic and policy development positions.
FDI continues to host forums with national and international subject matter experts; these are keenly attended, not only by policy leaders, business, academia and other think tanks but also the general public.
For more than a decade FDI has worked with world-wide research institutes and think tanks which support its research and policy ideas. FDI continues to grow its network base both within Australia and internationally on the important areas of research it undertakes.
The Australian Government has endorsed FDI as an approved research institute with Deductible Gift Recipient status. Donations to FDI are tax deductible.
FDI is sincerely grateful to the many donors who contribute generously to its research activities. In particular, The Glendonbrook Foundation, Tim and Sally Sims (PEP), the Kingold Group, The McCusker Foundation, Kerry Stokes AC (ACE), The Pratt Foundation and the Forrest’s Minderoo Foundation.
FDI is always seeking funding support to continue its focused research on issues of vital importance to future generations of Australians, including through bequests. We welcome your future participation.
