‘Afghanistan: The Old-New Geopolitical Blackhole’

The Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle, Western Australia

The opening keynote address will be delivered by Future Directions International Institute Director and Chief Executive Officer, Major-General (Retired) John Hartley, AO.

Speakers and panellists include national and international speakers, from renowned institutions such as the Australian Strategic Policy Institute. Under consideration are topics that will consider and investigate Australia’s various challenges and options regarding Afghanistan.

This event will cover four themes: Australia and the Afghanistan Campaign; Sustaining the Campaign; Broader Considerations; and ‘Where to Now?’

The first session will be ‘open’ for reporting, while the following three sessions will be conducted under Chatham House rules.

The last session of the day will be chaired by Major-General (Retired) John Hartley, AO and conducted as a roundtable, allowing attendees to participate on this important issue.

This event is being held in conjunction with Curtin University and corporate sponsors. The 2nd Annual National Security & Strategy Workshop is part of the ‘Strategic Flashlight’ series of security and strategy events.
