|
Any existing or potential shortages of water, food and energy are likely to lead to conflict and security issues. It is this threat to security and potential conflict that is the driver in seeking to understand the problem and identifying solutions. To this end all research undertaken in this area considers the following question: How can Australia best display a global leadership role in improved and sustained food productivity and landscape regeneration in the event of global food and water crises? Food and Water Security in the Indian Ocean Region to 2025 From early 2012 Future Directions International is undertaking a Landmark Study assessing the current and future food and water situation in the countries of the Indian Ocean Region to 2025. This will involve extensive research and the collection and analysis of data to determine the potential for food and water crises to occur over the next decade and beyond. Due for release in early 2013, FDI’s study will comprehensively answer questions for individual countries relating to population growth, access to food, governmental policies and Australia’s involvement in alleviating possible crises.
