Energy Security

Australia needs to be assured of sufficient energy resources to meet its requirements in the foreseeable future. The Scoping Question to satisfy this analytical requirement might be expressed as follows:

What are Australia’s energy requirements to 2030 and how might these best be met?

In considering this question, there are a number of elements that need to be considered:

1. What are Australia’s energy requirements to 2030, noting changes to the size and location of population, industry and other demands and changes to social and cultural behaviour?

2. What new and emerging changes in the form of types of energy and its production might occur over this period?

3. How might science and technology impact on the demand and delivery of energy during this period?

4. How could the planning and management of energy requirements and delivery be improved, noting the need to balance social, environmental and business needs?
